Michael Buble emotionally opens up about how his son Noah's battle with liver cancer was a “sledgehammer” to his “reality” and admits he will never be “carefree” again

Michael Bublé has spoken about how his son Noah's battle with liver cancer has “reset” his priorities in life.

The 48-year-old singer revealed how his now 10-year-old son Noah, who was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma in 2016 at the age of three, “pulled the curtain back on his eyes.”

He emotionally confessed that the diagnosis was a “sledgehammer” to his life, causing him to reset his priorities and focus on his family rather than his career and his “ego”.

Speaking to Steven Bartlett on CEO podcast “The Diary,” Michael appeared tearful as he said he would never be “carefree” in his life again after his son's battle with cancer.

The star, who is married to Luisana Lopilato, explained: “My son's cancer diagnosis rocked my world.” It pulled the curtain back on me. I don't want to go into it in depth, but I don't think I had the context.

“It was a blow to my reality, I will never be carefree again in my life and that’s okay.”

“It is a privilege for me to exist and the pain, fear and suffering that comes with such things is part of this life.”

“When it actually happened, I was in crisis. I don't think I had my priorities clearly defined. My family was always a love – I don't think I was a terrible guy, but it was a blinder – career, ambition, how do I become the worst, biggest, best? More ego, more power.'

Michael said he felt like he was living with a “curtain” over his son Noah's cancer diagnosis as he made a promise to himself to give up his “ego.”

“It's as if life was lived in front of me like a curtain, like a filter, and the moment they said, 'This is what's happening,' reality hit me – the filter was gone in a moment” , he continued.

“I was fine, that's it, that's life, that's the most important thing.” “It's not that I thought about it, I didn't, I didn't have time to process it.”

“I remember closing my eyes and saying to myself, 'When we get out of here, I'm going to have a different life, a better life.' And I did, I made that promise to myself right away.

“I want to be kinder, I want to be more empathetic, I don’t want this ego and this false self to take over, I want to know how lucky I am.”

“I am a happy man. Look at my wife. How did that happen? How did I get this incredible person, who is the best of all of us, to guide and carry me through these things?”

In addition to Noah, Michael also has children Elias (seven), Vida (five) and Cielo (16 months) with his wife Luisana, an actress.

Michael has previously spoken about Noah's cancer diagnosis and how he felt like “the superhero I always wanted to be” before being “changed” by the “unthinkable” ordeal.

Earlier this year, Michael told Red Magazine: “It's obviously changed me a lot – it's changed what's important to me, it's changed the way I look at life.”

“For most of my life as an entertainer, and especially on stage, I was my alter ego.” I had become the superhero I always wanted to be.

“Then my wife and I went through the unthinkable and I lost that alter ego.”

On maintaining a successful relationship with his wife Luisana, he added: “Above all, my wife and I understand that each other's fulfillment is important…”

“I’m not saying we’re perfect — no one is — but we both have that understanding.”

“I won't be touring for certain months next year because she's doing a movie, and so I'll be dad on set, and then she'll do the same for me.” “We don't care what we do – that Being together is the goal.”
