Storm “Zoltan” hit Germany – travelers by train and ship felt the first effects yesterday. At night there were many failures on the Deutsche Bahn, especially in the north. Ferry traffic has also been partially suspended.
The storm has already brought many calls to the Fire Department. There was initial damage in Bremen and Wilhelmshaven. Trees fell in Lower Saxony and Christmas markets were closed.
Severe storms are expected
Meanwhile, people on the Elbe, Weser and Ems need to prepare for strong storms. “When the tidal wave passes over the North Sea islands, it then goes up the rivers,” said Jennifer Brauch, from the authority's forecast services for the North Sea and Baltic Sea.
Great Britain and Denmark also affected
The storm was also felt in other countries. The storm has already caused problems for travelers in Britain. Schools in the Shetland Islands remained closed. In some places, trees fell or power went out. There were also temporary restrictions on air and rail traffic.
In Denmark, isolated flights from Copenhagen Airport were cancelled, as were trains in the western region of Jutland.
