Donald Trump swears he hasn't read Hitler's Mein Kampf, doubles down on attacks on migrants

Donald Trump was widely criticized for his claim that migrants were “poisoning the blood of the United States,” but rejected any comparison to Adolf Hitler and claimed to have never read “Mein Kampf.”

“It's true that they're destroying the blood of our country, that's what they're doing, and they're destroying our country,” the former president, a candidate for re-election in 2024, said during a campaign rally Tuesday night in Iowa.

Donald Trump had already made similar statements about migrants over the weekend, triggering outraged reactions; some saw them as an allusion to statements made by Adolf Hitler in the anti-Semitic work “Mein Kampf”.

“They don’t like it when I say that,” the billionaire commented to his followers. “They say 'Oh, Hitler said that,' but in a completely different way,” he defended himself.

And brushes it aside: “I have never read Mein Kampf.”

However, an account associated with Joe Biden's campaign posted a montage Wednesday afternoon comparing three quotes from Donald Trump to those from the Nazi dictator.

“This is no coincidence,” said the Biden camp in the headline of the publication.

The increasingly violent rhetoric of Donald Trump, who is well ahead in the polls heading into the Republican primary, is putting his party leaders in a very uncomfortable situation.

Starting with the Republican tenor in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, who publicly denounced the former president's comments on Tuesday.

In mid-November, Donald Trump also compared his political opponents to “vermin”. Joe Biden's campaign team then accused him of “emulating the autocratic language of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.”

During his first presidential campaign in 2015, Donald Trump shocked people with his comments about “raping” illegal migrants.

He then promised to build a huge wall along the 3,000-kilometer border that separates Mexico from the United States to prevent migrants from setting foot on American soil. A project that never came to fruition.
