A Russian drone crashed into a residential building in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, overnight, where two people died, authorities said on Thursday (21).

It is one of the first such incidents in months in Kiev, where antiaircraft defenses usually neutralize recurring bombings involving Russian drones and missiles.

The antiaircraft alarm sounded at night, and minutes later the residents of the capital felt loud explosions.

“A residential building in Kiev suffered an impact from a Shahed,” an Iranianmade drone widely used by the Russian army, the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff Andrii Yermak said on the Telegram app.

The incident was recorded in the Solomiansky district in the southwest of the capital, where a building “burned in the upper part,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported on Telegram.

According to Klitschko, one man received medical attention in the area and another injured person was treated at the scene.

The city's military administration published photos of houses whose windows were destroyed by the explosion and assured that it was not an explosive drone, but a drone neutralized by antiaircraft batteries.

The mayor also explained that another Russian drone was shot down by the army and the debris fell on a property in eastern Kiev.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that groups of Russian drones were advancing across the country in various directions towards central, western and southern Ukraine.
