Shots fired at the facade of a restaurant caused cold sweats among customers inside in Montreal's Rivière-des-Prairies neighborhood late Thursday.
Montreal police were alerted by a 911 call around 11:30 p.m. to shots fired outside the Chez Smoothzi candy counter on Avenue André-Ampère near Boulevard Armand-Bombardier.
Upon arrival at the restaurant, police encountered the customers, including a 53-year-old woman who may have suffered minor injuries to her lower body from a broken window and was transported to a hospital center, according to a spokesman for the City of Montreal Police Department (SPVM).
According to initial information, one or more suspects fired several shots at the glass facade of the establishment and then fled before the police arrived, said agent Caroline Chèvrefils.
Shell casings were found on the ground, while the crime scene was protected by a security perimeter for investigators and forensic identification technicians who must analyze it to try to determine the exact circumstances of this event, the SPVM added.
