David Kozak is said to have killed two more people a week earlier
According to police chief Martin Vondrasek, the man also killed his father in his town of Hostoun, west of Prague. Authorities also reported that Kozak may also have murdered a man and his little girl in Klanovicky Forest a week before the university massacre.
Kozak's mother informed the police about her son's plans
After being informed by David Kozak's mother, the police launched a search operation and cleared the university building. But then everything degenerated. In fact, the 24-year-old did not attack the Faculty of Philosophy, but another building, which also belonged to the same faculty, on Jan-Palach-Platz. The murderer had prepared for a long time by bringing a large amount of weapons and ammunition into the building. All the weapons were registered in his name and the police had no record of him that could have alerted them to his intentions. These were handguns and long weapons, i.e. pistols and rifles, including a shotgun and a silencer.
The murderer had a homemade bomb in his house
Investigations revealed that the 24-year-old Czech had a homemade bomb in his home in Hostoun near Kladno, 30 kilometers from Prague. It is a device that consists of “cylinders, ammunition, pyrotechnic material and chemical substances,” reported a person close to the investigators. “The basement looked like a bunker. The bottle was large and had several cables connected to it that led to other devices. In my opinion it contained a system that would have caused the explosion.”
Kozak had to attend a lecture at the university
According to police, Kozak was also scheduled to attend a lecture in a separate university building on Celetna Street, just a few minutes' walk from the Arts Faculty, just off Prague's Old Town Square. The officers had been looking for him before the shooting.
