Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed a contract extending through the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The legendary Uruguayan striker will join the team ahead of the 2024 MLS season after being named the Brazilian League's best player and best striker thanks to his 26 goals and 17 assists in 53 appearances, leading Grêmio to victory in the Campeonato Gaúcho and Recopa Gaúcha.

Suárez's extensive list of titles includes a coveted UEFA Champions League triumph, as well as a FIFA Club World Cup title, five LaLiga titles, an Eredivisie title, four Copa del Rey titles, an EFL Cup, a KNVB Cup, two Uruguayan Primera División, a Campeonato Gaúcho, a UEFA Super Cup and two Supercopa de España titles. The striker led Uruguay to the prestigious Conmebol Copa América title in 2011.

The prolific goalscorer has received dozens of personal awards throughout his career. Notably, he was the top scorer in a competition seven times: KNVB Cup (2009–10; eight goals), Eredivisie (2009–10; 35 goals), Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers (2013–14; 11 goals), English Premier League ( 2013–14; 31 goals), FIFA Club World Cup (2015; five goals), Copa del Rey (2015–16; five goals) and LaLiga (2015–16; 40 goals). His goals in the league in 2013–14 and 2015–16 earned him the Europe's Golden Boot award, while his total of 31 Premier League goals in the 2013–14 season was the competition's single-season record at the time.

Suárez was named Dutch Footballer of the Year (2009–10), Best Player of the Copa América (2011), Premier League Player of the Season (2013–14), FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball (2015) and Trofeo Alfredo di Stéfano (2020 -21) and Bola de Ouro (2023) received awards throughout his career. He was also selected once to the FIFA FIFPRO Men's World 11, once to the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team, three times to the UEFA Champions League Squad of the Season, twice to the PFA Team of the Year, twice to the LaLiga Team of the season and elected to the Copa America team once as tournament winner, once as Uruguayan Primera División team of the season and once as Campeonato Gaúcho team of the season.

The Uruguayan striker played for FC Barcelona from 2014 to 2020, where he won several titles and broke records. With the Spanish giants, he won a UEFA Champions League, a FIFA Club World Cup, four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Rey titles, a UEFA Super Cup and two Supercopa de España titles. In 283 games for the club, he scored an impressive 195 goals and provided 113 assists.

Suárez played a prominent role at Liverpool for four seasons, where he won the EFL Cup once, and at Atlético Madrid for two seasons, where he won a LaLiga title. He played 133 games for Liverpool, scoring 82 goals and 46 assists, and 83 games for Atlético Madrid, totaling 34 goals and six assists.

A native of Uruguay, Salto began his career with Club Nacional de Fútbol in his home country, progressing through the youth team and making his professional debut. He played for the first team between 2005 and 2006 and won a league title during that time. He later returned to the club for a second stint in 2022 and once again ended his stay triumphantly with a Uruguayan Primera División title.

Suárez also played in the Netherlands for FC Groningen and AFC Ajax and in Brazil for Gremio. He scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 37 appearances for Groningen before moving to Ajax, where he made 159 appearances, scored 111 goals and 68 assists, and won the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup. Most recently, he scored a total of 26 goals and 17 assists in 53 appearances for Gremio and won the Campeonato Gaúcho and the Recopa Gaúcha.

The striker is one of the most accomplished players in his country's history and currently holds the record for most goals scored by the Uruguayan national team with 68 goals. He has also made the second most appearances for La Celeste to date with 138 and helped lead the team to a historic Copa America title in 2011.

Suárez will be reunited with his former FC Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami. Together, the group made history in Spain, winning four LaLiga titles and one UEFA Champions League title in five seasons.
