US media reported that actor Charlie Sheen was allegedly attacked in his home by a neighbor and later arrested by police.

Sheen, star of numerous films and the hit television sitcom Two and a Half Men, was not seriously injured in the attack, which was allegedly carried out by 47-year-old Electra Schrock, who attacked him after knocking on the door of his upscale home Beachfront district of Malibu, California.

Fox News reported that Schrock forced his way into Sheen's home after he opened the door. She then tried to strangle the star, allegedly tearing his shirt, Fox said.

“The suspect, Electra Schrock, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, violence likely to result in serious bodily injury … and residential burglary,” a Los Angeles police spokesman told the station.

According to the LA Times, sheriff's deputies arrived at Sheen's Malibu home around 1 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call. Authorities did not provide any information about a possible motive for the attack, and Schrock was expected to be arraigned Friday at the Van Nuys courthouse.

Schrock reportedly lived in Malibu in an apartment on the same street as the actor. She claimed that she had no objection to elder abuse earlier this year.

Sheen, 58, who has openly documented his struggles with substance abuse, has also been arrested several times, including for assaulting his then-girlfriend Brittany Ashland in 1996. Sheen pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years' probation.

In 2009, he was arrested in Aspen, Colorado following a domestic violence incident involving his then-wife, Brooke Mueller. As part of a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to assault.

Sheen, once the highest-paid actor on television, was fired from the hit CBS show Two and a Half Men in 2011 after he made controversial statements about the show's co-creator Chuck Lorre. Sheen then embarked on a nationwide tour that he called “My Fierce Torpedo of Truth / Defeat Is Not an Option.”
