Canadian League Defensive Player of the Year Mathieu Betts could potentially move from the Lions to other Lions. His great season in BC has drawn attention in Detroit, NFL, where he has just been practicing with the team.

The former Rouge et Or, author of 18 quarterback sacks, traveled to Detroit on Tuesday to meet the Lions, who invited him to a tryout in practice. They are currently unable to sign him, but this option could be considered for next season from January 13th.

“It was good, but we shouldn't see it as bigger than it is. I did exercises for 10 to 15 minutes and trained with medical tests. There's a limit to how good or bad it can go, but I'm happy with it. There is nothing more concrete or tangible to say at the moment,” the defense attorney told the Journal.
Good meetings
Betts believes his visit to the Lions was productive, but he's not getting carried away. After all, this time he also completed tryouts with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers a year ago.
“It’s definitely flattering. It's all positive no matter what happens. Last year was my first experience with this type of testing, and this year I knew better what to expect. I don't put myself under pressure, I just do what I have to do. If it works, all the better,” he summed up in his usual relaxed tone.
While there, Betts did not meet with head coach Dan Campbell, but members of the Lions' football operations team and defensive coaches were in attendance.
“There were good interactions. The Lions have praised Dan Campbell's work and what he has done with the team. “I was also told by the owners, with one of the daughters of the Ford family taking over the team in the last few years and becoming more involved,” he said of the organization, which appears to be on an upward trajectory with good young ones players and a record of 10 wins and four defeats.
No change
Despite the interest in him in Detroit, Betts suggests there are no tests planned with other teams at this time, although the portrait may quickly evolve.
“Nothing changes for me. I have the 2024 season in mind, no matter where I am. Whether in the CFL or the NFL, the formula doesn't change. Football is a daily business. “My job will be to be the best possible player on my team,” concluded the man who would be very happy to return to British Columbia.
Betts got his first opportunity in the NFL with the Chicago Bears when he was signed as a free agent following the 2019 draft, only to be released in training camp in August.
