Three Britons were arrested this Saturday (21) by the Armed Forces of the Antilles (France) with a shipment of 1.2 tons of cocaine in a yacht in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

The three crew members included a 29yearold man from Stornoway, Scotland, who was in command of the ship. All will be prosecuted.

After the interception, Spanish authorities intervened in Marbella and Valencia and arrested five other people suspected of being involved in the delivery. All five remain in custody as the investigation continues.

The operation to prevent this drug from reaching the streets of Europe was carried out jointly by authorities in France, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain and began on March 18.

“Together we are determined to do everything we can to target and disrupt drug trafficking groups and prevent them from fueling violence, intimidation and decay,” said Paul Owen, an official at Britain’s National Crime Agency.
