Everyone expected that young Canadian player Macklin Celebrini would be banned after his action against Switzerland on Friday, but in the end he escaped without sanction.
The Disciplinary Commission of the International Ice Hockey Federation (FIHG) announced on Saturday morning that although he had been excluded from the game, it saw no need to impose an additional penalty.
In the second period, Celebrini lost control and went behind Leo Braillard, who was standing in front of the bay window. The Canadian attacker attacked him hard and the Swiss hit his head against the boards as he fell.
“I know the boy and he didn’t mean any harm to him. It's such a game where you have to think in a second. Instead, he must learn to wrap his arms around her. I hope the young man is right. We’ll wait and see,” head coach Alan Letang told the TSN network after the game.
