Just days before Christmas, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers became heroes after intercepting a stolen Canada Post delivery truck, saving the holidays for several residents of Olds, Alberta.
Last Wednesday around 10:30 p.m., Olds officers were alerted to the theft of a truck from a Canada Post Office. The driver had just gotten out of his vehicle to unlock a door when a woman got behind the wheel and fled at full speed.
Police quickly located the truck on the outskirts of town and gave chase. For reinforcement, Didsbury officials laid out a shag carpet. However, the vehicle fled for several kilometers with a loss of air in the tires before it came to a stop.
“As RCMP approached the truck, the driver reversed and crashed into an RCMP car, causing $7,000 in damage. The driver then hurled forward into the south ditch and became hopelessly stuck in the snow. Despite this, the driver continued to rev the engine and spin the tires for some time,” an RCMP news release said.
The suspect – Jamie Kruse, 46 – was arrested and faces charges of dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, resisting arrest and breach of probation.
Fortunately, the truck and its packages were returned to their owner.
“The Alberta RCMP is proud of the Olds and Didsbury detachments for making sure a Grinch didn’t ruin their family’s Christmas,” police said.
