The Oilers explode in the third period

The Edmonton Oilers scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period to beat the New York Rangers 4-3 at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Trailing 1-0, Connor McDavid's gang opened the scoring in the first half of the final period. Zach Hyman, Evan Kane, Warren Foegele and Ryan McLeod all found a way to get the puck past goaltender Jonathan Quick.

The Rangers then fell behind again but were unable to complete the comeback. Mika Zibanejad and Will Cuylle scored in the final moments of the game, while Blake Wheeler opened the scoring in the first period.

Stuart Skinner made 31 saves in the win, while Quick stopped 24 pucks in the loss.

Niederreiter takes care of the Bruins

At Canada Life Centre, Winnipeg Jets forward Nino Niederreiter scored three points in a 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins.

The Swiss scored twice and set up Adam Lowry's goal. Other goal scorers for the winning team were Gabe Vilardi and Josh Morrissey.

It was Brandon Carlon who denied goaltender Connor Hellebuyck his second shutout of the season in the third period. The latter made 24 saves. At the other end of the ice, Jeremy Swayman was challenged 33 times.
