There is an urgent need for disarmament – in war zones with weapons and, in our country, increasingly with words.

Innsbruck (OTS) – A peaceful Christmas. That's quick and easy to say – hard to imagine in reality. 2023 has brought war, hate, destruction and death to the world again. War images from Ukraine only disappeared in some places because new images of terror came from Israel and the Gaza Strip. And when we convince ourselves of confidence for the new year, this is associated with the – certainly naive – hope that the world will return to a more peaceful place as soon as possible.
This requires disarmament. From a global perspective, mainly one of the weapons. And the actions. And in our own world, in Austria and also in Tyrol, there is a disarmament of words. There are important elections coming up next year. In Innsbruck. In the federal government. In Europe. It is to be feared that, in the constant excitement so typical of our times, the tone will become even harsher and more aggressive. It is to be feared that aggressors will push verbal boundaries even further so they can cross them again, and others will follow suit and speak louder to somehow be heard somewhere. A fatal cycle.
In our culture of constant breathlessness, we need not just one, but two or three steps back. Definitely a break every now and then. This applies particularly to politics, but also to us, in the media, and also to dialogue in the private sector. It is also important to maintain social peace in Austria in the coming year. The many signs of solidarity, humanity and charity across Tyrol these days show that this is absolutely possible. This should be brought to light much more often because it also guarantees some peace.
