A prolific literary genius, Stephen King published more than sixty novels throughout his career, including some under the alias Richard Bachman. His often dreamlike, almost always frightening worlds have often been brought to the big screen, but also adapted for television in the form of series. We think in particular of the various adaptations of It, Simetierre or even Carrie that have terrorized fans. As far as the series is concerned, fans of the author “Mr. “Mercedes,” a dark and gritty thriller that recently debuted on the Disney+ platform. What is Chapelwaite, a brilliant series based on the work of Stephen King, about?

Such is the case with Chapelwaite (literally “He Who Holds the Worm”), a ten-part horror series that was mercilessly canceled after just one season. This prequel to The Mystery of the Salem Lot, one of the author's best-known novels, deals with a family tragedy. As is often the case, a very dark world and a small town are present in adaptations of the author's works. The story takes place here in the 1850s when Captain Charles Boone moves into his ancestral home with his three children until trouble and dirty family secrets get in his way.

Chapelwaite will not be renewed

As Jason Filardo, executive producer and co-creator of the MGM+ platform, announced, this brilliant series will not be renewed. “I fear the story of Captain Boone will end on this worn, sandy beach in Maine. There will be no second season. Thank you to all Chapelwaite fans!” he wrote on his X account, without giving any further details. The news was not easy for fans to digest and they expressed their disappointment on social networks. Although this is far from always the case, Stephen King himself loved this adaptation of his book. “Excellent and horrifying expansion of my story, Jerusalem's Lot, which I wrote at university,” he commented on his X account. A pity. In the meantime, it's still possible to watch the first season of Chapelwaite on Prime Video.
