World Junior Championships: Canada urgently recalls a defender

Team Canada Junior (JCT) added defenseman Jorian Donovan to its roster on Friday, four days before the start of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.

The 19-year-old athlete wears the colors of the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. He is a fifth-round pick (136th overall) of the Ottawa Senators in the 2022 draft.

Donovan is a 1.85 meter tall left-hander and weighs 80 kilograms. He has scored eight goals and provided 18 assists for 26 points in 31 games so far in the 2023-24 season.

This recall comes a few hours after defender Tanner Molendyk was injured in the preseason game against Switzerland.

After the game, ECJ head coach Alan Letang said he was optimistic about the possibility of Molendyk helping his team in the tournament, which will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from December 26 to January 5.

The Maple Leaf will play its final preseason game against the United States on Saturday. He will begin the competition against Finland next Tuesday.
