Together instead of alone on Christmas Eve Vienna

Social

Christmas is a celebration of family and friends. But there are also people who are alone on Christmas Eve. The Viennese parishes therefore invite you to celebrate together today with food and drink.

Together instead of alone, this is the motto of some selected parishes on December 24th. Offers are free. If you don't want to celebrate Christmas alone, we offer a cozy get-together under the Christmas tree, songs and a party: from boiled meat to veal cream goulash, from cake to vanilla crescents and punch.

Falling down the side aisle of the church

A small Christmas party awaits visitors to the Curhaus in St. Stephan's Cathedral Parish at Stephansplatz 3 from 5pm. A registration is not required. Vienna Military Command guards provide guests with goulash, and the Christmas Gospel is read and Christmas carols are sung in the festively decorated rooms of the cathedral parish. A registration is not required.

In the church of St. Florian in Margareten, young people find a kind of living room in the right aisle of the church, which is open for warming up and celebrating from Christmas Eve until Monday morning. Singing, singing and playing are part of the program. The warming room for young people at the “Open House” of São Floriano is supported by social workers and is intended for everyone “who feels cold inside and out, especially at Christmas”, as the parish puts it in its invitation. Registration is also not required here.

Warming room at night and during the day

There will be a Christmas party with food in the St. Elisabeth parish hall in the 4th district (St.-Elisabeth-Platz 9) from 7pm to 9pm. Registration is required.

A meal will be offered in the PfarrCaritas boiler room in the parish Herz Jesu Sühnekirche (Alszeile 7) in Hernals from 1pm to 5pm. However, emphasis is also placed on social contacts. If you search, you will find people who are open to all guest concerns and needs.

Many Caritas helpers are on duty, especially during the holidays. “Poverty, homelessness and loneliness are bitter realities year-round. Christmas time is particularly difficult for those affected. “It is even more important to continue our help during the upcoming holidays and show people that they are not alone at Christmas,” said Klaus Schwertner, Director of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna.
