A star linebacker will return to the Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes continued to hand out gifts to some of their players on Friday as they signed star linebacker Tyrice Beverette to a two-year contract.

In his second season with the team, the American earned the Alouettes' Defensive Player of the Year award and was selected to the 2023 Canadian Football League Eastern Division All-Star team.

Beverette was among the top defensive tackles and ranked third in the league with 20 special teams tackles. He also had seven sacks. The 28-year-old led the league in recovering four fumbles, including two that were converted into majors, while also fending off four passes.

“We have just resolved a very important defense matter. The fact that Beverette will be with us for several years shows how much he believes in our team,” Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said in a press release. He’s had so much success with us in 2023, I feel like he’s still hungry and that’s very encouraging.”

Quarterback Cody Fajardo, along with linebacker Darnell Sankey and defensive lineman Shawn Lemon, are among the club's athletes who accepted a contract after winning the Gray Cup in November. Head coach Jason Maas and his assistants as well as general manager Danny Maciocia were also rewarded with new contracts.
