A dog that was shot 96 times with lead bullets has been rescued from an animal shelter in Portugal in critical condition. The dog, named Garrincha, was rescued by the Cantinho Association in the Azores and had difficulty walking, serious problems with his hind legs, severe pain, in addition to his skeletal and kidney problems. “No one can imagine what he suffered on the street,” the institution posted on a social network.

The association then raised funds for examinations, treatments and operations that the dog had to undergo. He underwent successful surgery at the beginning of November. “This boy is a fighter! Garrincha is a very complicated case and has never been seen before. Everything was very well thought out and the vet did everything for him. Now we will fight for recovery,” he informed.

The good news came on Thursday (21). After a long treatment and a lot of care, Garrincha was able to walk again. “He is still in hospital, he has already been neutered and now needs to start treatment for his skin problem. Garrincha remains in the care of the association, but is placed in a temporary foster family. Garrincha is a warrior,” said the institution’s team.
