Inter Miami adds bite to its attack

Inter Miami CF pulled off a major coup when they managed to bring Lionel Messi and striker Luis Suarez together for the 2024 season.

Rumors about this transfer started gaining momentum in early November, but it finally became official on Friday. The great Uruguayan striker will play in Major League Soccer for the first time after recently playing for Grêmio in Brazil.

“We promised our fans that we would seek out the best players in the world to build a team capable of competing at the highest level in America. Having just completed a trophy-filled season in Brazil, Luis will be an important addition to our training,” Inter Miami majority owner Jorge Mas said in a press release.

David Beckham's club is now relying on a quartet of former Barcelona players. This summer, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba joined Messi and helped the team win the League Cup. The four men made rain and shine in Spain and notably won the Champions League in 2015.

Suarez left Catalonia in 2020 to join Atlético Madrid. He then made a triumphant return to his training club Nacional in Uruguay before joining Gremio on 1 January.

“I will do my best to bring joy to the passionate fans I have heard so much from while wearing the Miami colors, and I look forward to being reunited with my great friends and players,” assured Suarez.

The 37-year-old in a month scored 195 goals in 283 games for Barcelona and has lost none of his touch over the years. In 2023, he totaled 26 goals and 17 assists in 53 games.
