We know that some teams have shown interest in Montreal Canadiens goaltenders, but if none of them have been traded yet, it's largely because general manager Kent Hughes is very greedy.
“Teams that have a surplus of goaltenders… they know it,” Elliotte Friedman said Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada. They are very greedy, especially when it comes to salary deductions.
“Teams looking for goalkeepers feel like they are being blackmailed a bit.”
Earlier this week, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that teams had contacted Hughes about veteran Jake Allen.
The Habs GM is doing well at the moment as his team is still in the playoff picture with a record of 15-13-5 over the Christmas break despite a three-man goalie with Allen, Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.
Montembeault is the one who has the best stats with a record of 7-4-3, a goals-against average of 2.86 and an efficiency ratio of 0.907. Primeau follows with a 4-3-0 record, a 3.20 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
Allen, for his part, has some issues, as evidenced by his 4-6-2 record, 3.43 goals against average, and .904 efficiency percentage. Still, he remains an interesting goaltender in the eyes of some teams looking for a veteran who has seen snow in the National Hockey League.
