“We, women and men from the health, social and scientific sectors, want to confront the President of the Republic and his government with their immense responsibility,” they wrote in a statement published in the press.
More than 5,000 professionals supported by various associations “solemnly demand” that the French president “not promulgate” the law.
The signatories include the general secretary of the medical association of a health center, the co-president of the emergency collective, the representative of the pediatric society or the national secretary of the Socialist Party, as well as other professional and association organizations.
For them, the recently passed immigration law pushed by Macron and his government “seriously jeopardizes the humanistic health model” in France. They also believe that this text, approved on Tuesday by the National Assembly, will have an impact on the health of the most vulnerable children, which could lead to an intolerable increase in child mortality, which has been rising in France in recent years on “social inequalities”.
“This text violates the International Convention on the Rights of the Child,” they write, by hindering family reunions, complicating administrative procedures for unaccompanied minors and restricting the right of access to emergency shelters.
Around 150 institutions called for a citizen mobilization against this law, which they say attacks fundamental republican principles.
