Bodies of five hostages found in Hamas tunnels

Egypt, proposal to Hamas for a three-stage ceasefire: how it works
Egypt launched a three-stage initiative aimed at ending fighting between Israel and Hamas and releasing hostages still held captive during talks between Egyptian officials and a Hamas delegation in Cairo earlier this week. This was announced by the Saudi broadcaster Asharq News TV, citing sources close to the talks. According to sources, the first phase includes a ceasefire of at least two weeks during which Hamas would release 40 Israeli hostages: women, children and sick elderly people. In return, Israel would release 120 Palestinians from its prisons, cease hostilities and allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. The second phase includes Egyptian-sponsored Palestinian talks to end the intra-Palestinian “split” and form a transitional government to govern Gaza and the West Bank.
The third and final phase, according to the sources, calls for a full ceasefire and a “global” agreement to release all Israeli soldiers held by Hamas and other Palestinian factions in exchange for an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. At the same time, Israel should allow those displaced from Gaza to return to their homes. According to the broadcaster, the proposal is being discussed at Hamas' political office in Qatar. There has been no comment so far from Egypt and Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist group by Israel, the European Union and the United States.
