Two weeks after his death, American tabloid The Blast obtained a copy of the actor's death certificate. According to this document, Ryan O'Neal has been hospitalized at Providence Saint John Health Center in Santa Monica for his cardiomyopathy (a condition that affects the heart's ability to pump blood to the rest of the body) for several years.

He died in this California hospital on December 8th from complications of heart failure. No other cause of death is noted in the certificate.

Cardiomyopathy is often associated with alcohol and drug addiction, an issue that has long troubled Ryan O'Neal. In 2009 he was sentenced to rehab and tried to escape. He took his last breath at the age of 82 surrounded by his family.

Beyond his memorable acting career, Ryan O'Neal formed a star couple with Farrah Fawcett. Between 1979 and 2009 (year of death of the “Drooles de dames” star) they loved each other, separated and found each other again.
