A Ukrainian drone strike hit the port city of Theodosia in Russian-occupied Crimea on Tuesday night. This was confirmed by the Moscow-appointed governor of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, Russian state agency Tass reported. The attack destroyed a large Russian navy ship, the Novakharkask landing ship, Ukrainian Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on Telegram on Tuesday.

The information could not initially be independently verified. Aksyonov reported on Telegram about a serious explosion and a huge fire in the port. Several residents were evacuated from neighboring buildings.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, in violation of international law. The Ukrainian government has repeatedly stated that it wants to retake the Black Sea peninsula.
