The world has not learned all the lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the message from World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Tuesday December 26th. In his end-of-year message, the head of the WHO emphasized that 2023 marked a turning point in the fight against major health problems, but that not all countries were equally prepared for the outbreak of new pandemics.
“2024 presents a unique opportunity to close these gaps,” he said, recalling that countries are negotiating the first global agreement on pandemic threats. “The pandemic agreement is intended to eliminate inequalities in cooperation, cooperation and fairness,” he added.
Since May, the alert level on Covid-19 has been lowered by one level as the WHO believes that this pandemic is under control. “This marked a turning point for the world after three years of crisis, suffering and loss for people around the world. I am happy that life has returned to normal,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Tuesday.
