UN agencies condemn bombings in central Gaza Strip

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed deep concern in a statement about the consequences of the wildfires, including the loss of more than a hundred lives.

This is particularly worrying after Israeli forces ordered residents of southern Wadi Gaza to move to the central Gaza Strip and Tal al-Sultan in Rafah, the office warned.

However, three refugee camps, Al Bureij, Al-Nuseirat and Al-Maghazi, were attacked, said the spokesman for the High Commissioner (Volker Türk), Seif Magango.

Two attacks hit seven residential buildings in Al Maghazi camp, killing about 86 Palestinians and wounding many more, it said.

According to the official, the number of dead and injured could rise as it is unknown how many people are trapped under the rubble.

More than 100 patients were transferred to Al-Aqsa Hospital within 30 minutes on Monday after explosions occurred, including near the Al-Maghazi refugee camp, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Monday.

The facility's emergency medical team coordinator, Sean Casey, described the situation at that facility as a “bloodbath.”

In a message published on the social network X, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus condemned the carnage caused by the Israeli airstrikes.

“WHO is extremely concerned about the unbearable burden that the escalation of hostilities is placing on the few hospitals in Gaza that remain open, while the majority of the health system is decimated and devastated,” he stressed.

Palestinian authorities estimate the death toll across the Gaza Strip since October 7 at more than 20,000 dead and 52,000 injured, most of them women and children.

A statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migrants on Tuesday described the reported attacks, particularly in the north, as genocide and massacres.

The aim of the operations there is to end the Palestinian presence in the northern area and strengthen control over it, the text says.

The document criticized violations and crimes committed by the military and Jewish settlers in the West Bank, including the occupied East Jerusalem region.

Israel systematically ignores UN Security Council resolutions and international calls and demands to protect civilians and end aggression, the statement said.
