A man charged with murdering a 2-year-old boy and injuring his twin sister could face the death penalty for this heinous crime.

Jonathan Allen Dunn, 36, of Roy, Utah, is charged with aggravated murder, aggravated child abuse and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, the Associated Press reported.

The charges come after he previously served a two-year prison sentence for breaking a child's arm seven years ago.

Devastated friends and family started a GoFundMe page following Aleister's death. It has raised nearly $9,000 of its $10,000 goal.

“On Thursday, December 21, 2023, our sweet Aleister passed away at the hands of a complete monster. “His twin sister was also injured and is currently in Primary Children Hospital!” the site says

“I am raising funds to cover the cost of funeral services and medical bills so that Aleister’s sisters can get the help they need to cope with this devastating loss.”

The previously convicted criminal now faces the death penalty after a two-year-old boy died in his care.

Dunn told officers that he had been babysitting the children when he himself called 911 Thursday morning to report that the 2-year-old boy was not breathing, according to an affidavit supporting the charges.

The 36-year-old admitted hitting the children on the back, sides and chest during an alleged “game” on Wednesday evening.

According to court documents, he said “he hit her harder than he should have.”

He said he gave both twins Tylenol, gave the little boy cough medicine and the little girl sleeping pills.

The boy was reportedly wheezing on Friday morning – so Dunn gave him more cough medicine.

Between 8:30 and 9 a.m., the boy stopped breathing, Dunn allegedly told officers.

Both children had bruises all over their bodies and the girl was taken to the hospital for treatment of a brain bleed, court records said.

Dunn was held without bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Dec. 26.

He was sentenced in May 2017 to up to 15 years in prison for breaking the arm of a child he was caring for in 2016.

He was released from prison in April 2019 and was on parole until December 2021, Utah Department of Corrections officials said.
