In a recent editorial, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu listed three prerequisites for peace following the October 7 Hamas terrorist attacks.

“Hamas must be destroyed, Gaza must be demilitarized and Palestinian society must be de-radicalized,” Netanyahu wrote in an editorial published Monday in the Wall Street Journal.

Netanyahu wrote that the elimination of Hamas would occur “in full accordance with international law,” despite the difficulties posed by Hamas' strategy of using “Palestinian civilians as human shields.”

The White House has previously confirmed that Hamas is using Gaza's largest hospital, al-Shifa, as a base of operations. Hamas also uses the tunnels under the hospital for military operations and to maintain control over hostages.

“To invalidate this cruel and cynical strategy,” Netanyahu continued, “the international community must place the blame for these victims squarely on Hamas. It must recognize that Israel is leading the civilized world’s larger battle against barbarism.”

Netanyahu also debunked claims that the “Palestinian Authority” would demilitarize Gaza as a “pipe dream,” stating that the governing body “currently funds and glorifies terrorism in Judea and Samaria and raises Palestinian children to seek the destruction of Israel.”

“For the foreseeable future, Israel will have to retain overall security responsibility for Gaza,” Netanyahu wrote.

Netanyahu also noted the importance of education in reducing anti-Semitism and bluntly called for violence against Jews as part of a broader de-radicalization policy in Gaza.

“Schools must teach children to value life more than death, and imams must stop preaching about murdering Jews,” he wrote. “Palestinian civil society must be transformed so that its people support the fight against terrorism rather than financing it.”

Gaza City Mayor Yahya R. Sarraj wrote an editorial in an op-ed for the New York Times accusing Israel of causing “the deaths of more than 20,000 people.”

The op-ed, published on Christmas Eve, listed examples of destruction in Gaza after Hamas terrorists killed and kidnapped Israeli, American and other civilians on October 7.

“The relentless destruction of Gaza – its iconic symbols, its beautiful coastline, its libraries and archives, and its economic prosperity – has broken my heart,” Sarraj wrote.
