In another video that has already accumulated more than 4 million views, Jeff explains that the value of the gifts was set at $60 (equivalent to almost R$300) and that it could not be a used item. However, he ended up getting one red lantern apparently used. “There was a rule of not bringing anything from home and I don’t know why someone decided to play with me. It smells like cigarettes and is dusty,” the young man complained.

However, the content ultimately displeased Jeff's colleagues. The person who handed the item to the boy sent a disapproving message. “I wanted you to know that I came across your TikTok about the gift I gave you. If you weren’t happy, you could have said so,” he said. “If you don’t like the lantern, please don’t throw it away. My grandmother gave it to me before she died, it is a collector’s item,” he added.

After the incident, Jeff said he was fired by his supervisor. The manager initially cited another reason for the firing, but later mentioned the post. “The company saw your recent TikTok,” he admitted.

According to the website DailyDot, Jeff said he was surprised to be fired over the video. On the young man's profile, viewers speculated about the incident. “The person who gave you the gift contacted HR directly,” one user wrote. “Take the gift back and tell her to give hers back,” another added.

The name of the company was not disclosed.
