The Carolina Hurricanes announced Tuesday the recall of veteran goaltender Antti Raanta from the American League and the subsequent release of Quebec goaltender Yaniv Perets to the ECHL.
Raanta, who is having a disappointing season, was placed on waivers on December 16 to no avail: no team claimed him.
The 34-year-old goaltender collected one win and one overtime loss during his short stay with the Chicago Wolves.
This personnel change allowed Perets to move directly from the Norfolk Admirals in the ECHL to the NHL. The 23-year-old goalkeeper is in his first season in the professional ranks after a remarkable stint at Quinnipiac University.
He was not sent into combat during his time with the Hurricanes.
The Carolina team plays its next game on Wednesday against the Predators in Nashville before hosting the Montreal Canadiens the next day.
