  • Barbra Streisand, 81, says she's “too old to care” if people think she dresses too sensually.
  • In an interview with The New York Times, Streisand discussed her style over the years.
  • “People should express themselves and wear whatever they feel on any given day,” she said.

Barbra Streisand doesn't mind the comments she gets about her clothes.

In an interview with The New York Times, the 81-year-old opened up about her style evolution and even shared some stories behind some iconic outfits she's worn.

Looking back on her outfits early in her career, Streisand said she shied away from anything too sensual or provocative because she was worried about how she would be perceived.

“I was too afraid of being seen like that at the time,” she told the Times. “I’m too old to care now.”

According to the Times, she also disagrees with the adage that people should “dress their age.”

“People should express themselves and wear whatever they feel on any given day,” Streisand added. “And it has nothing to do with age.”

She told the Times that a few years ago she even suggested posing for a W Magazine cover in a white shirt and no pants — something she wouldn't have done when she was younger.

Although Streisand made the best-dressed list twice, she also had some issues with her wardrobe, according to the Times.

When she won her first Oscar in 1969, her sparkly pantsuit turned out to be transparent in the stage lights.

“When I saw the footage on television, I was horrified,” Streisand writes in her memoir “My Name Is Barbra.”

“It looked like I had nothing on underneath. (It was actually lined with nude georgette.) I was so embarrassed. And I’m still horrified when I think about it now,” she continued in her memoir.

Streisand also recounted in her book how Princess Diana helped her when the zipper on her skirt came loose at a film premiere in 1992.
