The Austrian engineer Gaston Glock, inventor of the semiautomatic pistol “Glock“, died this Wednesday (27) at the age of 94. The information was published on the website of the company he founded, Glock GmbH.
“In memory of Gaston Glock, July 19, 1929 December 27, 23. “Perfection continues,” the institution wrote alongside a photo of the businessman on a black background.
The Austrian's invention revolutionized the weapons industry with the Glock. The pistol has become an icon US. It is estimated that the weapon is used by 80% of police officers.
The pistol also gained cultural relevance and was praised by many Hollywood and hip hop. The Glock was used in films such as “Die Hard 2”, “US Marshals: The Feds” and in the films about the famous British spy James Bond.
Who was Gaston Glock?
Gaston Glock was born in Vienna, Austria. He studied mechanical engineering in his hometown before designing prototype pistols.
In 1982 he won a tender from the Austrian Armed Forces by presenting a weapon with numerous nonmetallic components that was cheaper, lighter and easier to disassemble than those of his competitors.
