The faucet is currently dry. The United States announced on Wednesday, December 27, the release of a new $250 million military aid package for Ukraine. This is the last tranche that Washington can mobilize without a new vote in the US Congress, which is sharply divided on the issue.

The released aid includes ammunition for air defense systems and anti-tank weapons, according to a press release from the State Department. “Thank you for your help, we will win,” said the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Andriï Iermak, in the evening At (Ex-Twitter).

The United States is already the country providing the most financial and military support to Kyiv, with more than $110 billion pledged since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. But in the American Congress, negotiations between parliamentarians, Republicans and Democrats are still dragging on the validation of the 61 billion envelope that American President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky have urgently demanded.

Aid announcements at lowest level since February 2022

The Republican opposition has already failed to pass a new aid package and initially demanded significant concessions from Joe Biden on the country's migration policy. Senate leaders have already agreed that Congress will end the year without approving new funding.

“It is imperative that Congress act as quickly as possible to advance our national security interests by helping Ukraine defend itself,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement. According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, which tracks commitments to Kiev, new international aid announcements for Ukraine recently reached their lowest level since the Russian invasion began.
