The 77-year-old music icon claims in new legal documents that her 47-year-old son, whom she had with her now-deceased second husband Gregg Allman, is unable to care for himself due to his drug addiction. According to The Blast, Cher believes her son is “essentially unable to manage his own financial resources” and therefore needs a guardian to look after his assets.
The crucial question is to find the right person for this sensitive position. And Cher refuses to tell her son anything about the matter.
“[Cher] was unable to discuss Elijah's preferences regarding the appointment of a temporary guardian because he is unable to provide a preference regarding the appointment given Elijah's current mental and physical health issues, which are discussed in detail in the Concurrently Submitted Confidential Information “To formulate or express the appointment of a guardian for his estate,” the document states.
“Cher fears that the funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah without means to support himself and putting his life in danger,” it said.
The Believe singer has no trust in Elijah's ex-wife Marieangela King, whom he married in 2013 and has been separated from since 2020. According to Cher, she should not be his guardian because “Angela is actively working to prevent Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving the mental health treatment he desperately needs.”
“In fact, it would be dangerous for Elijah and his estate because [Cher] “is informed and believes that the appointment of Angela as guardian of Elijah’s estate would result in the immediate forfeiture or dissipation of Elijah’s assets for self-destructive purposes.”
The relationship between the two women is terrible. In September, Marieangela King accused Cher of hiring four men to kidnap Elijah in late 2022 while they were trying to reconcile. Cher denied the accusation and spoke to People about her son's addiction problems.
“I'm a mother. It's my job, one way or another, to try to help my children. “We do everything for our children,” she explained. Whenever you can help them, do it, because that “That's what being a mother is all about. But that's the joy, despite the sadness – when you think about your children, most of the time you smile, love them and try to be there for them.”
