Pierce Brosnan is in trouble, accused of trespassing on a thermal area in Yellowstone National Park

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – Pierce Brosnan, whose fictional film character James Bond has often found himself in hot water, is now facing heat in real life as he is accused of going off-site at a thermal area during a recent visit to Yellowstone National Park.

Brosnan walked in a restricted area at Mammoth Terraces in northern Yellowstone near the Wyoming-Montana line on Nov. 1, according to two federal notices released Tuesday.

Brosnan, 70, has a mandatory court date scheduled for Jan. 23 in the courtroom of the world's oldest national park. The Associated Press sent a request for comment to his Instagram account on Thursday.

Yellowstone officials declined to comment. Brosnan was at the park for a personal visit and not for filming, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Wyoming said.

Mammoth Terraces is a picturesque spot with mineral-encrusted hot springs bubbling out of a hillside. These are just a few of the park's hundreds of thermal attractions, which range from bubbling geysers to gurgling mud pots where the water is at or near boiling point.

Crossing borders in such areas can be dangerous: Some of the millions of people who visit Yellowstone each year suffer severe burns when they ignore warnings not to stray from the trail.

Getting caught can also pose legal risks, as trespassers are regularly hit with jail time, hefty fines and parking bans.

In addition to his four James Bond films, Brosnan starred in the 1980s television series “Remington Steele” and is known for his starring roles in the films “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “The Thomas Crown Affair”.
