The United Nations warns that around 300,000 people in Sudan have been forced to flee Gezira state. Fighters from the feared paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces have expanded their operations south of the state capital Khartoum, intensified their attacks against the Sudanese army and looted food supplies and valuables. Rapid Support Forces leader General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said on Wednesday he met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. This is Museveni's first appearance outside Sudan since he launched a campaign of attacks aimed at toppling the country's ruling military junta. The paramilitary group is now accused of committing genocide in the West Darfur region. Seven million people have been displaced and almost two thirds of Sudan's population, around 30 million people, need humanitarian assistance.
