The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are now easily repairable: their replacement parts can be ordered from iFixit, where the necessary documentation is also available. Unfortunately, parts prices have increased compared to the Pixel 7.

For those who are careful with their money in this time of inflation, opting for the latest Pixel 8 and its Pro variant is proving less and less interesting. Their price has already increased significantly compared to the Pixel 7, but even in the longer term the financial equation is less balanced. In fact, the repair will cost more than its predecessors.
Google increases prices for iFixit Pixel replacement parts
The repair program offered by Google via iFixit applies to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This site is known for its repair tutorials for many devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, which Samsung recently added to its own program. At the same time, iFixit offers branded tools and spare parts for sale to repair them.
In early December, Google introduced Pixel glitch mode via an update, as well as all the documentation needed to diagnose and repair its new smartphones. But useless without the necessary parts. Yesterday, Fixit fixed this problem by adding replacement parts for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, such as the screen, battery and all necessary components, to its online store.

Unfortunately, the parts for these devices will be more expensive than their predecessors, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. The Pixel 8 display costs 20 euros more than the Pixel 7 display. The same applies to the Pro variants. For example, its camera is sold for 42 euros more than that of the Pixel 7 Pro.
The Pixel 8's better components justify higher prices
This can be justified by the improvement of these components from one generation to the next. The Pixel 8's screen is brighter and reaches a refresh rate of 120Hz, while the Pixel 7 only hits 90Hz. Curiously, the Pixel 7 Pro's replacement battery is slightly more expensive than the 8 Pro's, supposedly better.
In any case, Google's provision of replacement parts is a positive step for the Pixel 8, which had a turbulent start. It's also a good selling point for a public concerned about its carbon footprint, particularly by reducing the amounts of e-waste.
