There are accusations of racism against the book “Welcome to the Wrong Film”, by German cabaret artist Monika Gruber and journalist Andreas Hock. The reason is an excerpt about blogger Roma Maria Mukherjee, who warned in an article about the infiltration of craft hobby courses by right-wing extremist women. This is nonsense and Mukherjee is a guardian of virtue, says the book.

What a woman with this name does in the textile hobby scene is a mystery; she would be “more likely to be involved in Shakren tantric gymnastics or a primal scream vegan seminar.” Mukherjee criticized, among other things, the mention of her name and was racially insulted. She was subjected to a smear campaign. Several media outlets had already reported it. “I feel insulted in an audiobook (…) and probably also in the printed version, and racist and defamatory statements are also made there. My full real name is mentioned there,” criticized Mukherjee on Instagram.

“Classical Nonpology”

Monika Gruber and Andreas Hock did not comment when asked. Piper Verlag said it was discussing with the two about how the passage could be changed in books, audiobooks and e-books. This change is expected to take effect starting Jan. 11 and likely a few days earlier for e-books, the publisher said Thursday upon request. You wouldn't want to hurt anyone personally or offend them. A public post on X, formerly Twitter, was the target of exaggerated satire.

The publisher had already announced in X that it would adapt the excerpt for the next edition. Disappointing for Mukherjee: “A classic non-apology”, a non-sorry, she wrote in X. There was a lot of support for the blogger on social media. (APA)
