Four other people were injured. Among them was the driver of the heavy-duty vehicle, who is now in the hospital: the fire department had to be called in to rescue him because he was trapped in the sheet metal. It was not an attack, but an accident: the driver had apparently hit pedestrians after overtaking a stationary vehicle.

The people involved, all German nationals, were transported to hospital and the Schanzl Bridge in the area of ​​the accident was temporarily closed to traffic and then reopened. In addition to the 63-year-old driver, the dead woman's nine-year-old son and two other women aged 70 and 45 were also injured. The truck driver is now in police custody after receiving necessary medical treatment.

The accident occurred around 9:50 a.m. According to a businesswoman reported by the Passauer Neue Presse, the truck driver may have seen the stopped bus too late and tried to avoid it. The van ended up crashing into a wall.
