CHARLOTTE – Professional golfer Harold Varner III was arrested Thursday evening in Mecklenburg County for driving while impaired, jail records show.
Varner was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail around 7:30 p.m. According to court documents obtained by Channel 9, Varner was driving on Providence Road “while exposed to an impaired substance.” Police stopped Varner near Queens Road.
Reporter Glenn Counts met Varner at his home in south Charlotte. He didn't come out but sent his lawyer.

Court documents say he exceeded 0.16 on a breath test, which is twice the legal blood alcohol content of 0.08.
According to court documents, he posted his $500 bail around 10 p.m.

“I'm Michael Neece, I'm his attorney and I wouldn't make any statements,” he said.
Varner played on the PGA Tour and currently plays on the LIV Golf Tour. He won the Australian PGA Championship in December 2016 and the PIF Saudi International in 2022.
Varner played college golf at East Carolina University and currently lives in Charlotte.
He is expected in court on January 19th.
