Over the course of 2023, several personalities have left us who, in their own way, have left their mark on the international political or cultural scene.

Here is the first part of a series of three reports on the missing people of the year.

This will be followed by a retrospective of those who have died across Canada on Saturday and a retrospective of those who shined in the arts and entertainment industry on Sunday.

Among the deceased international public figures we think of, among others, Jane Birkin, Silvio Berlusconi, Sinead O'Connor, Henry Kissinger and Tina Turner.

But there are several others whose deaths attracted attention and who appear in our tribute.
