The band Elio e le Storie Tese found themselves at the center of a fierce social controversy after lending their image to McDonald's new advertising campaign.
The controversy began two days ago when Elio e le Storie Tese published the fast food chain's commercial on its Instagram profile: apparently a video like any other. But fans didn't take it well. The group has been criticized for appearing in too many advertisements and, in the case of McDonald's, for sponsoring a company perceived to be pro-Israel. There are also those who accuse them of “supporting genocide” or being “Nazis.”
A series of unpleasant comments (“But do you really need the money that badly?”; “But weren't you the ones from Parco Sempione?”; “After 45 sold-out releases and the resale of the vinyl rights to Universal, we thought the money would pour in like crazy “) and a flood of aggressive criticism that triggered Rocco Tanica's angry reaction. The group's keyboardist replied to a follower who ironically asked if there was a brand to which Elio e le Storie Tese had not yet sold, “your mother. “Budget too low.”
Tanica's insulting response further agitated social media users, who became even angrier at the band, resulting in a series of negative comments and almost unrepeatable insults.
