Goaltender Jack Campbell appears to be at an impasse in the organizational chart of the Edmonton Oilers, who will be looking to get rid of his rather cumbersome contract.
Signing a five-year, $25 million contract on July 13, 2022, the 31-year-old veteran has become a liability to the team due to his unsatisfactory performance and compensation. He was demoted to the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers' affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), at the beginning of the season and saw Quebecer Olivier Rodrigue take over the number 1 in front of the school club's goal.

The former Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs can also expect to pack his bags next summer, according to Sportsnet network journalist Mark Spector.
“They will part ways with Jack Campbell. […] However, assets are required for a transaction to occur. At the moment, [Ken] “Holland would rather use it for acquisitions that will help them make the playoffs in 2024,” said the hockey expert in his most recent column.
Additionally, Spector believes the veteran goalie won't be tasked with defending the Condors' cage on a regular basis. However, if he returns to form in his next encounters, regardless of the number, he could rejoin the Oilers and serve as Stuart Skinner's replacement. Calvin Pickard currently holds this position.
Campbell has maintained a save percentage below .900 in both the National League and AHL this season. In Bakersfield he played 10 games and his goals average is 3.46.
