According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), ten Iranian-linked fighters were killed and thirty others wounded in “probably American” strikes against locations in eastern Syria on Saturday (December 30).
Iran is backing armed groups that Washington accuses of being behind an increase in attacks on its forces in the Middle East amid the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Islamist movement is supported by the “Axis of Resistance,” which includes Tehran.

“Ten pro-Iranian fighters, including three Syrians, were killed and more than thirty injured” in at least nine “probably American” airstrikes on military positions in and around Al-Boukamal in the border province of Deir ez-Zor. announced the OSDH. An arms shipment from Iraq and an ammunition depot were also attacked and there were large explosions, added the OSDH, an organization based in the United Kingdom but which has an extensive network of sources in the country at war located.
Hezbollah announces deaths of fighters
Tehran-backed Lebanon's Hezbollah announced Saturday that four of its fighters were killed “on the way to Jerusalem,” a term the group uses to describe its members who have fallen since October 7. The company did not provide any further information.
These attacks come amid increasing attacks by pro-Iranian groups against the American army in Syria and Iraq since the war began in Gaza on October 7. Around 2,500 US soldiers are in Iraq and 900 in Syria fighting the jihadist group Islamic State. According to the OSDH, eight Iranian-allied fighters were killed in mid-November in American strikes targeting two locations in the same province.
Washington has recorded at least 105 attacks on American targets in Syria and Iraq since mid-October, according to an American military official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The majority was claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq group, which denounces American support for Israel.

On Monday, Brigadier General Razi Mousavi, a senior commander of the Quds Force, the foreign operations branch and elite unit of the Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was killed in a rocket attack south of Damascus. Tehran accused Israel, which did not deny it.
