To everyone's surprise, 51-year-old Alain Berset announced that he planned to step down from power in June 2023.
A “goodbye” that we won’t soon forget. Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation with just a few hours left, published a funny video on X (formerly Twitter) this Saturday, December 30, to signal his farewell to the Swiss population.
We see him pick up a hat and disappear down the end of a corridor with a smile on his face. On the way there, the politician even shows his joy with a small jump. He accompanied his video with the same words in the country's three official languages: “Goodbye. Goodbye. Arrivalderci.”
Surprising finish
To everyone's surprise, 51-year-old Alain Berset announced his departure last June and said he had a “good time”. “Being able to retire during your lifetime is a pretty happy thing,” the politician said humorously in his farewell speech to Parliament on December 13th. That day he left Beat Jans, who will officially take over leadership of the Confederation on Monday, January 1st.
