Fire in Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce: A farm with 20,600 chickens lies in ashes –

A violent fire on Friday evening completely reduced a farm in Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce to rubble and destroyed the 20,600 laying hens there.

“It is actually our Gédésoeufs farm from 2016 that burned down last night,” confirmed the owner, Charles-Éric Bouchard, sadly on his social networks on Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but fortunately no one was on site when the violent blaze broke out.

“It's certainly disappointing, we have a lot of moral support from the community and other producers. “In the end no one was hurt, that's important to us,” Mr Bouchard told the Journal.

Even if the building is a total loss, he would still like to “thank the entire fire brigade team from Saint-Gédéon and the surrounding villages for bringing the danger under control”.

The next few months will be very busy as he has to quickly figure out how best to rebuild the nest.

“We are aiming for reconstruction in 2024. We look forward and will try to make up for lost time,” he concluded.
