The most anticipated video games of 2024, from “Hades II” to “Flight Simulator” – Le Monde

THE MORNING LIST

The release calendar for video games in 2024 is still in the fog: for many there are no exact dates yet, except for those that fall between January and February. This is in stark contrast to last year's busy schedule, where major productions from “Hogwarts Legacy” in February to “Starfield” in September were easily expected.

But regardless of the surrounding fog, the video game meteorologists at the Pixels du Monde service offer you eleven titles that should be the best days of the coming video game year.

EXPLORE

“The Plucky Squire”: Immerse yourself in a picture book

Back to childhood. The brave squire takes us into an enchanting fairy tale with cute and colorful characters. However, the naivety of the universe is just a facade. The game takes us into a conceptual experience in which our hero can, at any time, change the pages of the children's book of which he is the hero or even leave it to explore its owner's room.

Available in 2024 for PC and consoles.

“Star Wars Outlaws”: On the way to a galaxy far, far away

Last year, the first open-world adaptation of the Harry Potter universe catapulted Hogwarts Legacy to the top of sales. It's certain that the same formula that Ubisoft applies to Star Wars will generate similar enthusiasm with its game, whose story is set between the films “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.” Main characters: the outlaw Kay Vess, created for the needs of the game, and her charming companion Nix.

Available in 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.

“Ultros”: Passing through the doors of perception

Tested at Gamescom in Cologne, Ultros was a delight for our eyes, our ears and our fingers on the controller. Designer El Huervo and composer Ratvader (two Swedes) bring psychedelic ideas to the formula of non-linear exploration game in two dimensions (in the style of Metroid and Castlevania). Mysterious labyrinths, mutated fauna and alien gardening accompany the battles that trigger neon-colored tornadoes.

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth”: Rediscovering a monument

Cloud, Sephiroth and others are back for the second chapter of the high-end remake of Final Fantasy VII, after the very successful one of 2020. With its majestic landscapes, its deep intrigues and Dantesque battles, this reinterpretation of a cult title of the 1990s is the most important PlayStation exclusive at the start of the year, leading up to the release of Rise of the Ronin, Team Ninja in March and news of Death Stranding 2.
