The storm that hit Australia's Gold Coast in the southeast of the country destroyed two-time world champion Casey Stoner's $4 million home.
It has now been a week since violent storms began rolling in waves on the Gold Coast south of Brisbane, known for its long sandy beaches, surf spots and theme parks. Casey Stoner bought a magnificent villa here in 2016 for the alleged sum of 2.7 million Australian dollars, almost half of his previous residence.
The property, located on Kriedeman Road in Upper Coomera, in a residential area near Brisbane, was owned by the former owner of a V8 Supercar team, a popular sport in Australia. Very spectacular and located further inland than the previous one, it still has all sorts of amenities, from a pavilion for guests to a caretaker's house, including a helipad somewhere on the 4.5 acre property.
Unfortunately, very strong storms had been raging in the region for several days and the wooden part of the villa was not holding up.
Taking to social media, the Australian icon says: “I'm not sure anyone knows how bad the storm was in some areas of the Gold Coast last night.” The photos don't do justice to the extent of the damage in our area, and if you Having hands available to help people who have lost their homes, I know there is a great need for help. We are lucky that everyone in our house is safe and sound, and although our property suffered extensive damage, we are not the worst off! »
His initial comments did not contain images because the telephone network was down. But he could, Casey Stoner gave a glimpse of the damage…
As the man who retired at the peak of his career points out, it is important that no one among the Stoners was injured, which unfortunately is not the case for all of them, with three dead and two men struck by lightning reported. It is currently summer in Australia and temperatures are expected to rise above 40°C in this region, resulting in extremely severe storms with rain and hail.
