The Powerball jackpot reached an estimated $810 million Saturday night after no winner was announced in the final drawing of 2023, lottery officials announced.

The next drawing begins on January 1st, offering players the opportunity to start the new year with a juicy prize that has an estimated cash value of $408.9 million.

According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the pot is now considered the fifth largest Powerball jackpot and 10th largest U.S. lottery jackpot in history. However, the chances of winning are just as slim as ever at around 1 in 292.2 million.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our players a jackpot of this magnitude to kick off the new year!” Drew Svitko, Chairman of the Powerball Product Group and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Lottery, said, adding that players are still reminded to gamble responsibly, especially during the holidays.

If a player snags the winnings, they can accept the annuity prize worth an estimated $810 million or claim the lump sum payment estimated at $408.9 million, with taxes deducted in both cases.

With the annuity option, players receive an immediate payout followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year, lottery officials said.
